Uma Thurman has filed a $15 million suit against Lancome for continuing to use her image in its ads even after her contract with the cosmetics giant has expired.
In the suit filed in Manhattan federal court, Thurman accused Lancome of giving the "false impression" that the actress is still affiliated with the cosmetics giant, though her deal ended in 2004. She also said that Lancome failed to ask wholesalers and retailers to stop displaying her ads.
"Celebrities will now be careful about doing deals with Lancome. They continued to use her photographs long after the contract was over", according to Bert Fields, lawyer for the star of such movies as “Kill Bill” and “Prime”.
For its part, Lancome has issued a statement that their use, however minor, of the actress’ image was “neither deliberate nor intentional”.
