Stefano Pilati has just signed a new multi-year deal with YSL, effectively quashing rumors that he will be leaving his post as creative director for the French couture house.
According to fashion bible WWD, Pilati, who was first appointed by Tom Ford as head of womenswear in 2000, has received an offer to take the place of legendary designer Valentino, who just recently retired as head of his namesake label, but opted to pass up the job, which eventually went to former Gucci designer Alessandra Facchinetti.
Details of Pilati’s new agreement with YSL have not been made public, but it is reportedly commensurate to the Italian designer’s increasingly accomplished performance at the head of the respected French couture house, a position he has assumed since Ford left the label in 2004.
Before working at Yves Saint-Laurent, Pilati did designs for the likes of Miu Miu and Cerruti.
