French designer Pierre Hardy has agreed to collaborate with Gap, and is set to create a capsule shoe collection for the American high street chain.
The designs by Hardy, who is also the chief creative director for Hermès's jewelry division as well as designer for Balenciaga’s shoe collections, will be previewed, albeit on a limited basis, in Gap stores in the UK and France later this year. A more extensive range is then expected to hit shelves for spring/summer 2008.
Gap Europe president Stephen Sunnucks expressed pleasure at the partnership, saying that "As we launch our European collections in Gap stores for the first time, we are delighted to have the opportunity to build on successful past collaborations, with a world class talent like Pierre Hardy, and to offer his interpretation of Gap's casual aesthetic to our customers".
Hardy, a well-regarded accessories designer, also stars in Gap’s current European ad campaign.
