No London Ban On Size Zero Models

The British Fashion Council has backed out of plans to ban "size zero" models from the London Fashion Week catwalk, saying the initiative lacks international support.

"This will only work if it's an international solution," Hilary Riva, chief executive of the British Fashion Council, tells the Times. "I would love for there to be a simpler solution. If we could just tick a box and move on it would make everyone's life easier but now this really is along-term educational and behavioural campaign".

Originally, the plan involved getting models to get a doctor's certificate stating they were in good health before hitting the runway. The council’s sister bodies in New York, Paris and Milan, however, said the plan as “unworkable”. Fashion industry observers, for their part, also suggested it could cause some models to boycott London Fashion Week.
