The younger sister of the Uruguayan model whose death sparked the ongoing size zero debate was found dead Tuesday in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Eliana Ramos, 18, was found dead at her grandparents' home in the Uruguayan capital on Tuesday, authorities said. Her sister Luisel, 22, died shortly after stepping down from a runway last Aug. 2 during a fashion show here. [Source]
While many people immediately speculate that eating disorders caused the sisters’ deaths, Eliana’s fellow models denied that the latest fatality had any problems with her diet. However, there were some who noted that Eliana had been losing weight rather rapidly lately, although they were not certain why.
An autopsy ordered by a local judge will determine what killed the teenage model, and tests will be made available within a month.
This tragedy is the latest in a string of deaths that have shaken the entire modeling world. Just three months ago, Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston died of anorexia-related complications.
Surely, what happened to Eliana will further fuel the debate on size zero models, who have already been banned from the catwalks of Milan and Madrid after the models’ deaths last year. The ongoing London Fashion Week, however, did not ban size zero models from its shows, igniting another round of heated debates about the issue.
