Louis Vuitton and Rei Kawakubo To Collaborate

A collaboration between two of the world's most influential labels is in the works, as Louis Vuitton and Rei Kawakubo of Commes des Garcons have come together to open a joint store in Tokyo.

In a New York Times article, Yves Carcelle, chairman and ceo of Louis Vuitton, explained that the collaboration was the idea of the Japanese fashion house, and the luxury label felt it was the perfect way to mark the thirtieth year of the first Louis Vuitton store in Japan.

The store, which will sit within the Comme des Garcons shop off Omotesando, will open in September and run for three months. It will offer six exclusive bags that will be designed by Rei Kawakubo using the Louis Vuitton monogram.

No one is more thrilled about the project than Louis Vuitton’s creative director Marc Jacobs.

"It is impossible to overstate Rei Kawakubo's influence on modern fashion," he said. "I find it wonderful to think that 30 years ago, this immense talent, someone who has inspired so many others, was inspired by Louis Vuitton."
