Contrary to expectations, there would be no outright ban on ultra-skinny models at London Fashion Week, which starts today.
The British Fashion Council, which organizes the major fashion event, said Friday that while there is no ban on size-zero models, models who will work during London Fashion Week are required to submit a certificate of good health before they can strut down the LFW catwalks.
In its report, the council said, "We have considered this carefully and listened to a range of expert views. But we do not believe a focus on BMI (body mass index) provides the way forward. We favour the alternative approach of promoting good health based on medical assessments of models participating in London Fashion Week.
The council, however, has already recommended that models who are under the age of 16 should not be allowed to walk the LFW runways.
