Linda Evangelista has just signed on to become the new face of luxury label Prada, more than two decades after becoming one of the first “supermodels” to take the fashion world by storm.

The 43-year-old Evangelista, who at the height of her fame declared she would not get out of bed for less than $10,000, is the latest among the original supermodels to land gigs with major fashion houses.

Naomi Campbell, 38, is starring in the latest Yves Saint Laurent campaign; 39-year-old Christy Turlington, meanwhile, is the most recent face of fashion brand Escada; then there’s German supermodel Claudia Schiffer, 37, who is fronting for Italian label Salvator Ferragamo.

As Karl Lagerfeld himself one said, "Time makes them more interesting. They are, and stay, irreplaceable".
