Lars Nilsson Appointed New Ferre Creative Director

The house of Gianfranco Ferre has a new creative director in the person of former Bill Blass designer Lars Nilsson. The Swedish designer will take over the position left behind by Ferre, who died from a brain hemorrhage in June.

"I'm thrilled and honored to be joining Gianfranco Ferré, a house with a powerful legacy", Nilsson said.  "I feel very inspired by Mr. Ferré's imprint on fashion and strong architectural sensibility. I look forward to working with the Gianfranco Ferré house to take it to the next level and help cement its standing as an esteemed and globally-recognised luxury company."

Before he made his mark at Bill Blass, Nilsson held designing jobs for Christian Dior and Polo Ralph Lauren. He then stayed for six seasons at Bill Blass, before he and his entire team were fired due to slow sales. He then crossed over to Nina Ricci in 2003 and stayed there until last year.

His first collection for the house is expected to debut in February during the menswear shows.
