This London Fashion Week is indeed a very controversial one, not only because of the raging debate about size zero models, but also because of the use of fur by Welsh designer Julien Macdonald for his autumn collection.
At a time when the slightest indication of use of fur on screen and onstage triggers cries of indignation from animal rights activists, Macdonald paraded models—including supermodel Naomi Campbell, who wore a fur trimmed coat—in creations relying heavily on fur. He even created an entire dress using animal fur, eliciting shocked and angry reactions from animal lovers.
And what does he have to say to them?
"People who don't like fur can p*ss off. I love fur. It's a beautiful natural product from animals."
That statement was apparently in response to Pamela Anderson’s refusal to accept his invitation to attend London Fashion Week. The Baywatch actress, an animal rights activist, said she will only attend Macdonald’s shows if he stops using fur in his designs.
He, in effect, has just declared war on animal rights activists with that statement.
