Rumors are rife that Diego Della Valle, who has just acquired the fashion house of Elsa Schiaparelli earlier this year, has reportedly approached British designer Giles Deacon to take the helm at the legendary house and help bring back its glory days.
The Italian business mogul has been on the lookout for a designer for Schiaparelli, and had been in talks with Roland Mouret to occupy the position. Talks with the French designer, however, have reportedly fallen through.
Then comes Deacon, whose most recent show at London Fashion Week featured bambi-prints, elastic band embellishments and retro silhouette, bringing back echoes of the surrealist vision of Schiaparelli.
Elsa Schiaparelli was a major name in fashion during her heyday, and collaborated with some of history’s most famous artists, notably Salvador Dali. Her star, however, waned when World War II broke out, and eventually closed down in 1954.
