John Galliano has decided to take another crack at the eyewear business by signing a licensing deal with Italy-based manufacturer Marcolin.

The deal between Galliano and Marcolin, which already produces eyewear for the likes of Tom Ford and Roberto Cavalli, is a five-year licensing agreement, with a two-year renewal option. It will take effect on Sept. 1, 2009.

It can be remembered that Galliano had a previous eyewear line with former partner Airess, but it folded in 2003. Nevertheless, Marcolin remains excited about its partnership with Galliano.

“John Galliano is a real genius. To collaborate with a designer of this level of creativity is an incredible opportunity for Marcolin”, says Maurizio Marcolin, Style & Licensing Officer of Marcolin Group.

The designer will present his debut eyewear collection in autumn 2009, and distribution of the collection will be limited to high-end eyewear speciality stores, major league department stores and Galliano’s own boutiques.
