Gucci Kicks Off 70th Birthday Celebrations

Legendary fashion label Gucci launched last night the festivities for its 70th birthday this year by holding its first formal cruise collection catwalk show in Rome.

The collection showcased last night had a very sexy Seventies feel to it. Composed of trouser suits, silk blouses, floaty dresses and relaxed tailoring, the collection was inspired by Jane Birkin and Talitha Getty, according to creative director Frida Giannini.

After the show, more than 300 guests, including a number of celebrities and big names in fashion, were treated to a sumptuous dinner, as well as an after party at the grounds of Rome's Villa Aurelia where the show was held. British band Goldfrapp was among the performers.

Christopher Kane is Scottish Designer of the Year, Again

For the second consecutive year, the Scottish Fashion Awards has seen fit to hand its most prestigious award to Christopher Kane.

Kane beat out fellow Scots Jonathan Saunders, Graeme Black, and Deryck Walker to retain the title “Scottish Designer of the Year”.

"It was such a thrill to be involved in this event and a real honour to be there to see Christopher Kane pick up yet another well deserved accolade," said Vogue.com editor, Dolly Jones.

GFW Winners Announced

A student of the Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication snagged the top prize at the Graduate Fashion Week Gala Awards last night.

Jessica Au won the River Island Gold Award and the title GFW Designer of the Year, as well as £20,000. On top of that, she also won the Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textiles Award at the event, which was attended by big fashion names such as Henry Holland, Agyness Deyn, Gareth Pugh and Jens Laugesen.

Francisco Costa Wins Top CFDA Award

For the second time in three years, Calvin Klein Collection creative director Francisco Costa has bagged the Womenswear Designer of the Year title from the Council of Fashion Designers of America's 2008 fashion awards.

Aside from the Brazil-born designer, also garnering major awards from the event held at the New York Public Library Monday evening are first-time nominees Tom Ford and Tory Burch, who were named Menswear Designer of the Year and Accessory Designer of the Year, respectively.

Scottish Fashion Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the third annual Scottish Fashion Awards, with Christopher Kane once again getting a nod for Designer of the Year, as expected.

Giving Kane a run for his money are Jonathan Saunders, Graeme Black, Aimee McWilliams, Vidler & Nixon and Deryck Walker. For the new and very Scottish category of Best Use Of Tartan By An International Designer, duking it out are Henry Holland against big names Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren.

Meanwhile, the likes of Darius, Alex 'Franz Ferdinand' Kapranos, Christopher's sis Tammy Kane and actress Laura Fraser are nominated for the Style Icon 2008 award.

Ferragamo Celebrates 80th Anniversary

The house of Salvatore Ferragamo marked it’s 80th year in the business with a series of glamorous events in Shanghai, China.

With celebrities such as Cristina Ricci, Melissa George and Jennifer Jason Lee in attendance, the festivities started off with a retrospective called “Salvatore Ferragamo: Evolving Legend 1928-2008” at Shanghai’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Afterwards, a riverside fashion show was staged along the Huang Pu river. A VIP cocktail party then capped the festivities.

But the event was not just all pleasure. Ferragamo also did a little business, launching its newest products: Tuscan Soul, the latest Ferragamo fragrance, and a new line of watches in partnership with Timex.

CFDA To Honor Carolina Herrera

This was announced earlier this month at a gathering of fashion insiders at the Rockefeller Center by no less than famous designer Diane von Furstenberg, who also happens to be council president, saying Herrera “is a lady of elegance".

For the first time in history, fashion house Fendi will be presenting its newest collection in Paris instead of Milan, thanks to the efforts of legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld.

And the show that Lagerfeld has in mind for Fendi in the courtyard at LVMH's Paris headquarters would be anything but normal. According to fashion bible WWD, Chanel’s creative director is planning a “novel way of showing” the collection that is neither “static” nor “runway”.
