A new award is to be given out by the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation as it enters its eighth season: The Sustainable Design Award.
The new award, which will join the women's wear, menswear, and accessories categories, aims to recognize designers whose creations are made using eco-friendly materials, as well as make use of production methods that promote fair trade or social equity for workers.
"Fashion is a very real reflection of the times we live in, and Ecco Domani is the first to create an award for those emerging designers who are not only thinking about fashion design, but also how the whole process affects the planet", said Julie Gilhart, EDFF judge and VP of fashion merchandising at Barneys New York.
To be open to both men's and women's wear designers, the award requires applicants to apply the three elements of sustainability: environment, social equity, and economic viability to their designs. Interested designers have until October 3 to send in their entries, with the winners standing to receive a grant of $25,000 each.
