Britons Spend Over £1 Billion On Online Fashion in 2006

The Brits definitely do not hold back when shopping for clothes. Especially when they’re doing their shopping over the Internet.

Figures released by market analysts Mintel said that in 2006, Britons have spent more than £1 billion shopping for fashion online. And not just for your usual run-of-the-mill fashion. We’re talking about clothes designed by the likes of Stella McCartney, whose creations have already made it online.

According to market analysts Mintel, the online fashion market has grown by 461 per cent in five years and sales of fashion and footwear soared to £1.2 billion last year.

The figures have seen 2006 declared the "defining year" for internet sales, leaving companies yet to market their products online working furiously to establish a presence on the web.

And last night it was claimed Mintel's figures may actually underestimate the real value of internet fashion sales.

In this fast shrinking world of cell phones and instant Internet connectivity, it’s only fitting for online fashion sales figures to soar the way it has. With that promise, expect many online fashion retailers to rise and give market leaders Boden and Net-A-Porter.com stiff competition. You can bet on that.
