Audrey Tautou To Play Chanel

The Da Vinci Code star Audrey Tautou has been cast to play the lead in an upcoming French biopic of legendary French fashion designer Coco Chanel.

The French actress, who also starred in the Academy Award-nominated film Amelie, will play a young, yet-to-be-famous Coco Chanel in the movie being developed by French director Anne Fontaine, who told Le Film Francais that she wanted “to follow the interior path of this young woman who was poor, without education, but who had an uncommon personality that was ahead of her time,"

Chanel, who died in 1971, is regarded as the most significant figure in 20th century fashion. Attesting to this is the fact that of all designers who have come and gone, she is the only one in the field to be featured as one of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people of the 20th century. To this day, her House of Chanel remains one of the top fashion houses in the world.
