The trial of a New York journalist for kidnapping and sexually molesting a co-worker has turned into something bigger earlier this week following the disclosure of the defendant’s “personal manifesto” that contained his intentions to murder Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Peter Braunstein, who is alleged to have started a fire and posed as a firefighter to get into his alleged victim’s apartment, wrote in the said manifesto how he wanted to kill Wintour because, in his own words,  “I just feel like it”. The manifesto was on a computer disk police found in his rucksack.

It wasn’t stated how he intended to carry out his plans on Wintour, but it is quite clear how he felt about the woman regarded by many as the most important person in fashion.

“When I was a media reporter, there were many high-profile editors and God knows they had big egos, but you could still get them on the phone … But Wintour? She just never talked to peons like us. It was beneath her. And all the while I’m thinking: ‘Who is this skank?’” [Source]

Wintour is said to be the inspiration for the novel and its film version, The Devil Wears Prada.
