Anna Wintour, editor of American Vogue, has a new title to take pride in: that of an Officer of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - or OBE.
The Queen of England has seen fit to grant Wintour the honor in recognition of her “services to British journalism and British fashion in the United States”. Wintour, who was also at the helm of British Vogue from 1986 to 1987, is the second British-born, U.S.-based magazine editor to receive the royal seal of approval this year. Earlier this month, Harper's Bazaar editor Glenda Bailey was handed her own OBE.
Other fashion names that have made it to the Queen’s birthday honours list include Louise Wilson, the course director of Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design and designer Wale Adeyemi, who respectively got an OBE and an MBE for services to the industry.
