In Style Fall 2006: Layering

This fall one trend stands far above the rest, and that is LAYERING. Long shirts under short shirts, oxford shirts with sleek sweaters, long sleeves wtih short sleeves: it's all happening.

The trick to using layers successfully is to create a classy, slim look with your layers without giving the impression of being bulky.

As temperatures rise, plaid and flannel starts conquering the runways with snug and cozy apparall for all: cardigans, long scarves, dresses worn over pants, and even shorts worn over trousers.

Overt sexiness, in case you didn't get the memo, is over. Designers piled on the layers for the fall.

A Model's Beauty Bible

Thursday evening was a big night for Allure's co-founder and editor-in-chief Linda Wells, as she attended a celebration dinner hosted by Donatella Versace in honor of Wells' new book. Wells authored the recently released, Allure: Confessions of a Beauty Queen Editor.

Confessions is an extensive guide to make-up and beauty, designed to help everyday women as well as women in their modeling career work on their own makeup. Wells uses her expertise to expose the myths and reveal practical, useful information regarding makeup application as well as other beauty secrets.

Idiot's Guide to Modeling

Just in time for the holidays, Amazon.com is featuring The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being a Model by Roshumba Williams for as low as $6.95. Here you'll find a great deal of valuable information about the world of fashion modeling.

Keep in mind that it stops there, however, as the book does little to encourage ideas in other areas of modeling. Although many think of modeling as fashion and runways, there are many other opportunities that don't include high fashion. Also be aware the book provides very few photos so if you are a visual learner, you might want to reconsider.

Williams, whose name actually means beautiful in Swahili, was discovered in the mid-90s by designer Yves St. Laurent. Her long list of achievements includes films such as Pitch, FastLane, and Mortal Kombat: Conquest.

Portrait of a Model

Judgement of Paris pays respects to Valerie Lefkowitz, one of Wilhelmina's top plus-sized models since 1996 (she was 15) and was named one of the most influential teens in America by Teen People.

For two years, approximately from Fall 2002 to Fall 2004, while she was fuller-figured, Valerie was quite possibly the most beautiful and exciting model in the plus-size industry. We hope that she will someday regain her goddesslike curves.

Valerie appeared on the covers of the Spring and Winter 2004 issues of Figure magazine, as well as throughout the magazine’s Summer and Fall 2004 issues, and has graced the editorial pages of Grace, Glamour, and Real Simple. Her commercial clients at home and abroad have included Fashion Bug, Fruit of the Loom, Dockers, Dress Barn, Target, Emme Bridal, Vassarette, Reitmans (Canada), Goody’s Family Clothing, Junonia, Moonlight Bridal, Nordstrom, David’s Bridal, The Avenue, Wehkamp (Holland), and Kmart brands such as the new Jaclyn Smith Style collection, Joe Boxer, and Basic Edition.

Avoiding Modeling Scams

ABC.com reported Tyra Banks' warning call to young women: modeling scams are out there and anyone can become a victim. The supermodel even set up an undercover investigation to help young girls learn a lesson...

I know that girls are really, really hungry to be in the modeling industry," she told "Good Morning America" anchor Diane Sawyer today. "And they feel that this industry is going to give them this esteem. … A lot of them will go to any expense to achieve this dream.

Banks goes on to discuss the importance of safety among young girls in the modeling agency. She reported that one girl took off her clothes in less than three minutes for the fake photographer during the undercover investigation.

Poor Anna Nicole

Anna Nicole's Tragic Downfall

What's next for this former Playboy playmate? First her son dies right after she gives birth to her daughter. Then she's ordered to move out of her Bahamas residence theday after her son's funeral because although she says the $1 million dollar home was a gift, the original owner was simply passing on the mortgage to her.

A Big Flat Trend

So what's in more than ever these days?

The Flat. It has made a comeback stronger than the flare with its sleek, simple design. But how do you know if a pair of flats will compliment your outfit?

Keep this in mind...

The flat compliments anything below the knee...Never, ever venture toward other options with this fashionably simple piece of footware. This means if you're wearing a miniskirt, short shorts or none of the above, opt for something different.

The beauty of the flat is that it looks great (with anything below the knee) and it keeps the outfit simple so that it can counter-balance those zebra-striped capris or leopard print below-the-knee skirt.

Naomi in Trouble Yet Again

Poor, poor Naomi. This supermodel with super flawless beauty and superpowers of womanhood not understood by most has gone and done it again.

Some celebrities thrive on obstucting justice because "no press is bad press" or however they say it. But this towering bombshell needs to learn how to play it cool.

Then again the ALLEGED attack Ms Campbell advanced toward her victim, who by chance is also her drug counseler, could have been completely fabricated. Like the fabricated story of how she threw her cell phone at her housekeeper or the misunderstanding of the three employees whom she attacked as well.

More realistically thinking, she and her housekeeper were probably BFF and they were just messing around.

Unless Naomi Campbell just has an all-around hatred for hired help- quite understandable among many aristocats but profoundly unattractive. Maybe her extreme beauty on the outside makes up for her ridiculously angry, shallow interior.

Tighty Whities

What's with the tight pants?

With the right body and accessories they're sexy as hell but the image of Jude Law posing like a fairy princess in his tight, tapered pants is just...disturbing.

What happene to the boot-cut or the flair? The narrow pants trend needs to die.

Soon.

What tight-pant-lovers don't understand is that when flaunting such attire the suction causes the buttocks to be MAGNIFIED adding some serious poundage to the already-sensitive area.

The style of tight, tapered pants is not figure-flattering nor is it appealing to the eye.

So what IS WITH THE TIGHT PANTS?

It'll be the greatest unsolved mystery...
