Because of an eagle-eyed viewer, cosmetics giant L'Oréal has found itself accused of misleading audiences in its mascara ads starring Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.
The Telescopic mascara ads, which claimed that women could have up to 60 percent longer eyelashes, drew the sharp eye of a viewer, who said Cruz was wearing false eyelashes in the ad to exaggerate the product’s results. She promptly filed a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority, which also concluded that the ads were indeed misleading.

Gap has launched a new fall ad campaign called Classics Redefined, featuring a lineup of celebrities wearing classic Gap essentials.
The new campaign features 12 black and white portraits of stars, all numbered to highlight 12 wardrobe essentials Gap thinks you'll need this autumn. The portraits feature stars such as singer-songwriter John Mayer, who is pictured here wearing the $39.50 Sweater Vest.

Beginning July 25, the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England will be hosting an exhibit which will give us a closer look at the role of nautical inspired items throughout fashion history.
Entitled “Sailor Chic”, the exhibit features archive material from the beginnings of the nautical trend in the mid-19th century, to contemporary catwalk couture. Traditional naval uniforms will be showcased side by side with creations by contemporary designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Chanel and John Galliano. Paintings and photographs depicting nautical fashion through the years will also be featured.

Levi’s is taking Polo Ralph Lauren to court, claiming that its trademark "arcuate" pocket stitching has been illegally copied by the designer brand.
A|X Armani Exchange will open its fifth store in the United Kingdom this September, and with a total floor area of 11,700 square feet over two levels, it is touted to be the label’s biggest outlet ever.
To be situated on the British capital’s Regent Street, Armani’s newest store will feature private rooms where the label’s latest collections can be viewed and tried on, as well as interactive media and 10-foot-high video screens that show images from the seasonal collections.

Hollywood actress Maggie Gyllenhaal is the new face of lingerie firm Agent Provacateur, replacing troubled supermodel Kate Moss.
Gyllenhaal, the sister of “Donnie Darko” actor Jake Gyllenhaal, is set to appear in an online short film which is part of the firm’s forthcoming publicity campaign. Last year, the company’s website crashed with the sheer number of fans logging on to watch Moss do the same thing.
Gyllenhaal’s campaign, which will launch on September 1, will be followed by two more short films, whose stars are yet to be named.
